Lower car ferry   The lower car ferry (two operate at busy times) consists of a platform carrying the cars and passengers manoeuvred across the river by a tug attached to the side of the platform. The ferry carries code flag D to indicate "Keep clear of me, I am manoeuvring with difficulty". Please do!

Passenger ferry   The larger passenger ferry between Dartmouth and Kingswear plies upstream of the lower car ferry. Dartmouth can be seen to port, on the other side of the river, with its Town Quay from which the passenger ferry departs. This is the second ferry to watch out for. On the skyline above Dartmouth the imposing Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC) is clearly visible.
