  From the sea   As you approach Dartmouth from the sea, a conspicuous daymark on the hill northeast of the entrance can be seen.

From the West, leave the Homestone Buoy (red can) to port; from the East, leave the two cardinal ­buoys South of the Mewstone to starboard and then also leave the Castle Ledge Buoy [Fl G 5s] (green cone) to starboard.

  Approaching harbour entrance   Head directly towards the Kingswear Lighthouse, keeping it in line with the right hand edge of the white house above the light. At night, keep within the white sector of the light. The Checkstone Buoy [Fl(2) R 5s](red can) is left to port as you approach the narrows by the castle.
