Blackpool Sands is in a lovely cove three miles southwest of the entrance to Dartmouth Harbour. It is immaculately maintained and regularly earns the Blue Flag award for water quality and environmental management. You can go by water (anchor off and go ashore by dinghy) or by road (A379). Dogs are not permitted; it is clean and safe for children and has an award-winning café.

Slapton Sands and Slapton Ley (the freshwater lake)
Reserve behind the beach on the other side of the roadway. With offshore winds and settled weather you can anchor off. There are car parks at both ends of the long beach and also at the midpoint. Even at the height of the summer, away from the car parks you can find non-crowded areas along this lengthy beach.

At Torcross, at the southern end of the beach, a World War II Sherman tank is on display. It was recovered from the sea and serves as a memorial to the 700 Americans who lost their lives during ill-fated exercises in preparation for the D-Day landings; Slapton Sands was used as a practice landing beach.
